Reduced radiation, high quality scans, better patient experience
Every year the amazing team at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital performs more than 9,000 mammograms. This is a screening that is often done on otherwise healthy people to ensure that any sign of breast cancer is caught early when it’s more treatable. That’s incredible. And it happens because committed donors like you provide this hospital with the latest tools and technology needed to offer excellent care.
This year the mammography suite at the hospital was upgraded. Both mammography machines have been replaced with top of the line equipment. The new machines both feature 3D tomosynthesis. It’s a technique that was only available on one of the old units. The new machines use less radiation and are more comfortable for patients.
With the new machines in place staff are eagerly awaiting new software systems that will give the machines access to contrast-enhanced mammography, which is an advanced technique that improves the detection of certain types of breast lesions.
Never forget that you’re part of the team making these things happen. Your compassion, your caring, your donations are one of the critical building blocks that great care is built upon. Thank you for committing to care at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital!
